This website/application has been built for educational purposes - conducting research in the field of decision support systems (DSS). For building the decision support model, the Decision EXpert (DEX) method implemented in the DEXi software tool is used. DEX is a qualitative multi-criteria decision analysis method for decision making. Research data sets are anonymized and scrambled to provide full privacy of entities. Research is carried out on five entities (Person - employee, Organizational unit, Work position, Business application, Application roles) which are used in the business processes of the organization.
The fictional organization named "One big organization" needs to improve the decision process of choosing and granting access permissions to an appropriate person, and manage them within the organization's resources in the best cost-effective, secure and consistent way.
This application helped to answer the following two questions raised up before research began:
- How to evaluate an employee in accordance with the required organizational needs?
- How to select the most suitable employee for transfer to an Organizational unit without the employment of new candidates and be sure that an employee has all technical and personal preconditions fulfilled before coming to a new working place or position?
- How to exchange employees between Organizational units, given the employees' skills and Organizational unit requirements
This application shows how decision supporting systems based on qualitative multi-criteria decision analysis methods can deliver improvements. Improvements are recognized as speeding up the primary business process, reducing the time between decisions for transferring an employee from one working place to other, decreasing costs of administration and increasing organization revenue.
Application has been built with the following open-source technologies and platforms:
- Drupal - free and open-source content management framework written in PHP and distributed under the GNU General Public License
- Leaflet - the leading open-source JavaScript library for mobile-friendly interactive maps
- OpenStreetMap - open maps data, licensed under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL) by the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF)
- Wikimedia - a global movement whose mission is to bring free educational content to the world
- ICONS8 - Free Icons allows designers to express their ideas giving the right design elements at the right time
Core application functionalities based on the DEX business model (application logic) are designed and implemented in the application independently through custom modules programmed by Miljenko Hajnić.
Decision support model (Decision EXpert) is made by DEXi tool - a computer program for multi-attribute decision making initially designed by Vladislav Rajkovič and developed by Marko Bohanec in collaboration with the Department of Knowledge Technologies, Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia, and University of Maribor, Faculty of Organizational Sciences, Kranj, Slovenia.
All business processes used in this research are made with Bizagi Modeler, one of the most popular BPM tools in the world. Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is a graphical representation for specifying business processes in a business process model.
